You’ve got a letter from your English pen-friend. In his/her letter he/she describes his/her impressions of visiting the concert of his/her favourite pop-group. Write a letter to your penfriend and say

  • what kind of music you like best
  • how your favourite kind of music makes you feel
  • when you prefer to listen to music
  • what your parents think about your musical preferences

Write a letter of at least 100 words. Do not write your own name, any dates, addresses or other personal information. Start your letter in an appropriate way.

Dear Mary,

Thanks for all your news. I’m really glad to hear that you managed to get the tickets to the concert of your favourites and enjoyed their spectacular performance. I know that it was your long-cherished dream. 

You want to know what kind of music appeals to me? I like all kinds of music provided it’s good but prefer classical and folk music. Besides, I play the piano and they say I am good at it. I am also keen on rock-and-roll and frequently listen to it. 

The effect that music can have on my emotions is tremendous, as it can move me to tears or make me burst into laughter. I often feel like singing and dancing while listening to music. 

You know music is an immensely powerful thing and has a huge place in my life. When I am in a bad mood, I try to listen to some good piece and it raises my spirits. Whenever I do my flat, I always turn on some lively music and my chores are done much quicker.

As for my parents, they have the same tastes in music and we often go to concerts together.

Well, that’s all about my preferences in music. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
